Why Is Downtime Killing Your Business?

No business can afford downtime, so when it happens regularly, your chances of staying in the black and out of the red are severely lower. In this industry, time is money, and you don’t have enough cash to go around without going offline. And, even if you think you do, the fact is that the real cost of downtime is over $8,000 per employee.

Like any problem, you’ve got to figure out why the problems persist so that can make lasting tweaks. Unfortunately, going off the grid isn’t always a result of one element of the company. It can be a mixture of the following factors.

Human Error

As long as people run businesses and not robots, there will be mistakes. Of course, you want to limit them wherever possible, and the trick is to start with internal and external devices. The latter probably won’t incorporate the level of security that the business requires to prevent cyberattacks. With 78% of online traffic coming from portable devices, this is a major worry. So are weak passwords on accounts that connect to the server as they’re backdoors to your sensitive data.

You must create comprehensive and up to date policies that clearly and concisely tell workers how to act regarding your most vulnerable weak spots.

Server Failure

Problems happen, and sometimes it’s not possible to prevent them from occurring. All you can do is react. Still, mostly an issue is fixable if you are proactive. A server going down, for example, is usually as a result of a lack of bandwidth and high traffic. There is too much activity for it to handle, so it downs tools. A VPS server is an excellent and simple solution. Outsourcing your requirements to a third-party not only means you don’t have to worry about downtime but adds scalability to operations.

With a quality partner, you can increase or decrease your needs with a phone call.

Incompatible Software

Going offline sparks visions of the office shutting down as electrical devices go kaput. In reality, a more common form of downtime is when your employees can’t use software to complete tasks. Why? It’s because the programmes are incompatible and won’t sync. This is an especially frequent issue when workers bring in their own hardware as some will prefer Apple and others will go for Android.

You have to open up the infrastructure so that it’s welcoming to all operating systems. Alternatively, provide the team with company devices that use the same software.

External Attacks

Please don’t assume that you are small fry. There are bigger fish in the sea, but they are harder to catch. Hackers like SMEs because the budgets are lower, and security protocols are laxer. 43% of cyberattacks are target small and medium-sized companies. Therefore, you could be your own worst enemy when it comes to downtime. Without a strong firewall and antivirus program, you’re an easy target. But, you must work on the culture in the office, too.

The most secure businesses relay the message to their workers and get them to perform essential safety tasks.
