5 Environmentally-Friendly Businesses That Are Changing the World
Being eco-friendly isn’t just a fad; it’s the future.
It’s more important than ever before for businesses and consumers alike to be conscious of their environmental impact. Fortunately, eco-friendly business is on the rise, with an increasing number of green businesses leading the charge.
Customer expectations are rapidly changing: only those businesses that can appeal to modern consumers will survive the next few decades.
So let’s explore 5 environmentally friendly businesses that are paving the way forward.
5 Eco-Friendly Businesses to Keep Your Eye On
Dropless offers a waterless car wash service that uses eco-friendly nano solutions to clean the vehicle, saving a whopping 150 litres of water per wash. They also come right to your door — meaning you don’t have to use unnecessary fuel getting back and forth from your regular car wash.
And there’s more. Dropless isn’t just eco-friendly, they’re also highly ethical: the company is committed to fighting modern-day slavery (something that’s unfortunately more and more common in the car washing industry).
Since inception back in 2004, Leon’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric — it’s now a bona fide high-street regular. Alongside their delicious food, Leon has resonated with modern consumers because of its pledge to operate in the most eco-friendly way possible: they use organic products, greatly limit the amount of meat on the menu, have a zero-waste-to-landfill policy, and all their meals are served up in 100% compostable packaging.
Not only is this drastically reducing their carbon footprint, but it’s also leading to huge commercial benefits — with Leon reporting a massive 24.5% increase in sales from 2018-2019.
Next up on the list is IKEA. The Swedish furniture giant reportedly sources around half of its wood from sustainable foresters and 100% of its cotton from sustainable farms, as well as globally using over 7000,000 solar panels to help power their stores.
Plus, the company has pledged to only use recycled or renewably-sourced plastic in all its products by 2030.
It only makes sense that a brand loved the world over by outdoorsy-types would be so committed to eco-friendly practices. Patagonia’s global repair centres increase its products’ longevity (giving old clothes a new lease of life), and back in 2016 it donated 10% of its total revenue from Black Friday sales to grassroots environmental organisations.
That being said, the company still recognises that there are further ways it can reduce its carbon emissions — but it’s certainly on the right path.
The cosmetics industry sometimes gets a bad wrap from environmental campaigners (and rightly so). However, that’s not to say that they’re all as bad as each other.
Lush is one of the notable exceptions out there. For example, it tries wherever possible to produce plastic-free products; Lush’s solid shampoo bars alone have saved an estimated 6 million plastic bottles from being produced.
The company’s also big on incentives, offering certain freebies to customers who bring in empty product packaging that’s ready to be recycled.
Your Choices Matter
Whether you’re starting a business or you’re simply a consumer with a keen green outlook, your choices matter. It goes without saying that we all need to be more aware of our carbon footprint: actively reducing it wherever possible.
The time to act is now.
