The Benefits Of The Business Fixer-Upper

The trouble is that assumptions where health and safety is concerned are never a good idea. In fact, countless companies find that they lead to legal issues, unhappy colleagues, and more considerable expenses down the line.

That’s why it’s such good news that a total fixer-upper commercial space allows you to build health and safety from the ground up. Given that your building structure will likely need checking over anyway, you’re in the ideal position to invest in an earthquake retrofit and other such precautions without having to undo existing building works. You’ll also be able to implement things like updated security and fire alarm systems during a general rewiring undertaking. And, of course, you’ll be able to decide on everything from where you would like your fire exits, right through to wall reformations for a better overall layout regarding safety.

These precautions and more can all guarantee that your building, and the team within it, are safer than they ever might have been had you not taken the time to invest in a fixer-upper instead.

An opportunity for employees to have their say

As a business owner, the choice of premises falls on you for obvious reasons. Still, it’s important to note that your team should have some say in the space where they spend a large part of their days. Employers who let their staff select simple things like office decor or color schemes often enjoy much higher levels of productivity and satisfaction across the board.

This is, obviously, a difficult thing to implement when you’re moving into a ready-made office. After all, you can’t very well take everyone around with you during the viewing process! And, if the office is ready to go as-is, you’ll feel little need to improve on what’s in place.

By comparison, a commercial fixer-upper makes it much easier for employees to have at least some say about how the space looks when it’s finished. You still won’t be able to take them around during a viewing, of course, but taking staff for a brief look after purchase and asking for suggestions could work wonders in this sense. It may be that they simply want a say in the way you decorate, or they may have suggestions regarding changes in layout. Either way, these are the people who will actually operate within the space in question, and getting their opinion can, thus, make a massive difference to overall happiness and office efficiency.

A space that can last in the long-run

It’s no secret that every commercial move comes complete with inherent risks, including that of lost custom due to inconvenience, downtime, or distance. As such, advice generally states that you should seek spaces that can grow with you. And, while this goal isn’t impossible with pristine office purchases, it becomes far easier when fixer-uppers come into play.

On a fundamental level, that’s because commercial spaces that need work are almost exclusively cheaper, making it possible to invest in a larger area for expansion. Approaching a commercial project also means that you can implement everything you need for long-term operations, including custom-built offices, meeting rooms, and break spaces. You literally can ensure that all long-term needs are adhered to this way, and thus save yourself from potentially ever having to move again.

It’s not surprising that many managers shy away from commercial spaces that need work. This isn’t an undertaking everyone has the time or profits for, and it’s certainly not for faint of heart companies. Yet, when you consider these benefits, anyone who can invest in a fixer-upper for their business may well want to at least consider this option. Done right, it could just turn out to be the making of your company!
