Fixing: Tonbridge AL 03:12 GMT December 27, 2007 The reality is that the London 4pm fix coincides with the NY cut at 11am and is more often used by option traders The only other FIX is the daily official quote by the PBOC of the Yuan
I would say that the only people who are really privy to the Fix in London or NY are those involved whereas as you can see the Tokyo Fix is more widely broadcast. The Fix as far as we as retail accounts are concerned is just a heads up as to when some noise may enter the market. we are not privileged to know what "they" are transacting rather than trying to second guess what "they" are doing surely the only arbiter is price action and the speed of movement.

The actual procedure of this fixing is done by observing the spot rates in the inter bank market, in which the ECB also participates. Traders of the ECB in various locations get together to decide on how to set the fixing. The quantity quoted is not a bid price or an offer price the ECB or anybody else necessarily trades at, but is rather used for statistical and official means, for instance tax computation or economic research. www.frankfurt-school.de/dms/publications-cqf/CPQF_Arbeits3/CPQF_Arbeits3.pdf Madrid mm 17:48 GMT December 22, 2006 Definitions of London Fix on the Web: * Twice-daily bidding session in London of the five major gold traders, at which the price is fixed or set.
