Directions for producing - editing chart graphics with Windows XP Pro 2nd Ed. Windows Paint, &/or freeware image editor at irfanview.com (German & English). Use any image editor but note dimensions (1200X1200 pixels max) & weight (1MB max) of the image must conform to Global View's parameters. Color density of 16 colors maximum & using GIF format saves weight/loading time, & JPG/JPEG & PNG are accepted. Use no more than 65% for JPG/JPEG to save weight. Tip: If you use Windows Paint you'll have to convert that heavy bitmap (bmp file) to GIF, JPG/JPEG or PNG. At Step #6 RESUME THERE. Irfanview's editor discussed below does that.
1. Ready your chart on your monitor, press "Print Screen" key on the keyboard, puts whatever is on your screen(s) in clipboard. 2. Boot up your graphic program or download/install Irfanview to annotate, size, select color densisty etc.. In steps below I'll use Irfanview for image editing. If you use a different image editor please skip to step #10 & make sure the output isn't a "bmp" file, it's huge, has to be changed using Irfamview (or other editor) to a GIF, JPG/JPEG or PNG file. For Irfanview users: 3. Click in Infranview "Edit" then "Paste".
4. With your curser make a "select box" around the part of the screenshot that is the graph you want to post to Global View. You can drag the select box lines to change/fine tune your selection after the select box is in place. Click "Edit" then select "Crop Section". That eliminates everything else other than what's inside the select box. Click "Edit" then "Undo" if you make a mistake in the following steps. 5. Click Edit, then click "Show Paint Dialog" to annotate -or- click Edit/Copy and paste to your favorite graphics program or Windows Paint and annotate from there. To add text, draw a select box where you want it with the curser tool, then click "Edit" select "Insert text into section" using the popup window to type the text select size, color, background, allignment, font etc.. * If you used Windows Paint or have a bitmap to convert, paste to a graphic edit program such as Irfanview, RESUME HERE.
6. Image must fit Global View's parameters of 600px X 600px. To downsize click "Image" then "Resize/Resample", select checkbox "Preserve Aspect Ratio" then check radio button "Set new size" if it isn't selected already. To sharpen if it gets fuzzy after sizing, click "Image", "Sharpen Image". 7. Change the oversized Width or Height number(s) to less than 600. Irfanview auto-sizes the other one proportionally. 8. When everything is complete, click "Image" then "Decrease Color Depth", select "16 Colors". The less colors you have the lighter weight the graphic, faster loading - 16 colors is good. 9. Click "File" then "Save as", ignoring the flyout window. At the bottom of the main popup window's pulldown menu that says "Save as type:" select "GIF-Compuserve GIF", 10. Upload to Global View using the "Browse" button above the write-in text field on the post page. Remember: post brief description or data about your graphic in the text field. Add your screen name, date, currency pair on your chart if you want. Tip: Practice the above a few times before uploading graphics to Global Views forums. Irfanview does a lot more than listed above, it's a nice freeware rated 5 stars, download the "plugins" from infranview.com for video, music, Quicktime & "other" files. Tip: Keep the forums on track, limit graphics to -only charts- appropriate for FOREX trading. This is an experiment to enhance the forums & save white space; with your cooperation it will remain available. |
